    Smile Dies Non

    In case of 'dies non',
    1) does the person affected lose his seniority during such period of his unauthorized absence from service and,
    2) does it also lead to a break in his service?

Do we have any DoPT orders in this regard?

    Thanks n' regards

"Dies Non" does not affect seniority or lead to break in service. "Dies Non" means that the period of unathorised absence will neither count as service nor be construed as break in service. For further details refer Manual on Establishment and Administration (Chapter on Attendance and Punctuality).

Break in service can only be imposed under FR-17A.

Dies non is not a penalty but in layman's language no pay for no work. It can be imposed by the competent authority when an employee remains absent or present in office but does not work

Dies non does not affect seniority. It also does not lead to break in service. Break in service imposed under FR 17A will only affect LTC and Departmental Examination, if the continuous service required is affected by the break.
