Question Advance Tax in instalments by Salaried Govt servent.

I want to know whether a state government servant has to compulsorily pay advance tax due to salary from sept'2011 @ 30% and so on, if his total tax exceeds Rs 10,000/=. If the govt servant doesn't pay the advance tax in this way then will it attract a fine of 1%. Kindly clarify.

Primarily it is the duty of your Employer to do TDS @ equal monthly instalments. Once this is done, question of advance tax does not arise. When employer does not do it, they are first liable to pay fine. Suppose if you pay on your PAN, that cannot be accounted under TDS and your employer may deduct TDS by end of year, totally. So you can voluntarily account your TDS monthly average or simply divide last year TDS by 12 and inform them to deduct IT accordingly.
