It is the relation between the two clients (computers) along with the means of communication between them that decides the nomenclature such as Intranet or Internet etc.
A company's computers located in different branches scattered all over India and connect to central server over the world wide web (WWW) is called Intranet. Computers belonging to a college may connect to the single server within the campus over captive network of wires is also an Intranet. On the other side, two computers may be situated in the same room but interact through WWW is an Internet.
