View Full Version : Waiver of Interest on LTC advance

Hi members,

I would be glad if anyone could guide me on this. I had availed LTC advance of Rs. 67000 for my family to visit Gangtok in lieu of my hometown. i had booked my tickets by air well in advance (to and fro). however, due to some unforeseen circumstances, i missed my return flight and tried rescheduling it, but could not get confirmed tickets by air. So, I had to cancel my air tickets and return by train. On cancellation, Air India refunded me only 50% of the fare.

Initially, my total ticket bookings cost me about Rs. 70000. But due to the cancellation, i was left with a balance of about Rs. 36000 unused. Now, my question is will I be charged interest on this 36000/- though it was not due to my fault that the money remained unutilised ? If not, who can authorise the waiver of interest ??

you'll have to make representation.
the air lines did not cancel the flight.
the return trip was cancelled due to circumstances.( you have to prove it that it was beyond your control such as landslide, bandh etc with documentry proof)
now since nearly 50% was lost, i don't GOI is going to bear the loss.
as it is Govt is advocating LTC80 fares, which are refundable.
regarding intrest part, again it depands on merit of your representation.

Dear friend Iyer
You have kept the Govt money for a certain period and thus you have to pay the interest amount on it. Here the circumstances not favour you. You have missed the flight at your own. Moreover there is no power to any authority to relax the loss amount due to cancellation of ticket in LTC journey. In tour it can be refunded if tour is cancelled in public interest. You have to pay the entire amount with interest.
