Dear friends,

Government has issued Expression of Interest for introduction of Central Government Employees and Pensioners Health Insurance Scheme covering the following objectives.

Facilities of OPD and cashless inpatient treatment to the non-CGHS employees and their families;
Facilities of OPD and cashless inpatient treatment to the non-CGHS retirees and their dependents;
Cashless inpatient treatment to CGHS beneficiaries (both serving and retirees) in addition to existing OPD treatment available at CGHS;
CGHS beneficiaries can continue to avail the existing facilities of CGHS and also the benefits of Insurance policy by sharing the premium in full;
The CGEPHIS will be compulsory to all new recruits and retiring employees, while it is optional to all existing employees and pensioners;
All pre-existing diseases will be covered under the Insurance.

It appears that the scheme could provide the long awaited medical relief particularly to non-CGHS employees and pensioners.

We will have to wait and watch for the final shape and contents of the scheme to be finalized.

Dear Friend,

The proposed insurance scheme, for which Expression of Interest is invited by Government, has the prime objective of providing inpatient medical facilities to all serving employees and pensioners. The existing CGHS beneficiaries will have the option to retain the services of CGHS for OPD requirements and the insurance scheme for inpatient treatment. Free OPD consultation in network hospitals/nursing homes of insurance company is proposed. Cost of pathological services and medicines during OPD treatment will have to be initially met by the employee later to be reimbursed by his employer.

We will, however, have to wait for more information on the subject.
