Ministry of H&FW had issued a OM as given on the below link:

http://msotransparent.nic.in/writereaddata/cghsdata/mainlinkfile/File21.pdf

This OM clearly states that there is no need to get the bills verified by the treating doctor for the purpose of reimbursement.

In our office, when the treating doctor is an AMA or a recognized hospital, the bills are accepted without certification and when the treating doctor is from our institute's own medical center, they ask for verification of bills by the Doctor.

Is it correct? Senior members please reply.

The basic idea behind the issue of the above referred order by MOH&FW is to reduce the burden on the doctors/specialists as this is a time consuming exercise and to also obviate repeated visits to the hospitals for completing the formalities. This may not be a strong argument in the case of in house doctors. The order, therefore, does not cover in house facilities. Secondly what is the harm in getting the verification done by the in house doctor.

I totally agree with you that there is no harm in verification from in house doctors. But it proves out to be time consuming as when you got for verification to the Medical Center, there is always a queue of patients and u have to wait for your turn just to get the bills verified.

On the other hand, if you leave these papers for verification at the Medical Center for verification and you wish to collect it, the same are lost sometimes and again it proves to be hard to get duplicate bills and prescriptions.

I understand your problem. Probably the staff members could come together and bring this to the notice of higher authorities so that the procedures could be simplified in line with the orders of MOH&FW. If there is a Staff Association, then this could be taken up by them with the authorities concerned. Alternatively, your admin could officially send the papers to the doctor concerned for completing the formalities.
