Pl. enlighten me on the following:-
A person alongwith family travels on LTC to a place with Advance of Rs.4000 on 1.12.2010. He returns on 15.12.2010. His family is still in the place of visit and are expected to be back within 6 months of onward journey. He has submitted his claim as under:-
Onward journey for Self & family & Return journey for Self. Now he has advance of Rs.1,000/- on hand as excess. He says his family will come back within 6 months and claim for their return journey will be submitted later.

In this case, Will he have to recredit the excess Rs.1,000/- and then claim it later when he submits his claim for the family's return journey?
Or Can he submit the claim later after his family returns (for both self and family) in a single claim.
Pl. throw light on the above.

Dear friend,

If advance is drawn for LTC, the return journey must be completed within 90 days of receipt of advance. In your case you may submit the bills for onward journey (in respect of both self & family) and return journey (for self only) with the intimation that the claim for return journey of family would be claimed separately on completion within the permissible time limit. You will have to repay the advance (balance amount and penal interest on entire advance).

As per ltc rules it is expected from a Govt servant to purchase the ticket within 10 days from the date of drawal of advance. In this case, the GS has to purchase the ticket or refund the balance. Future advance may be drawn as and when required

Dear friend,

Please note the correction. The bill of LTC claim in respect of self only may be got settled first for both onward and return journey. The claim in respect of family must be preferred separately for both onward and return journey.
