View Full Version : Rounding off to the next multiple of 10

02-10-2008, 01:27 PM
My basic pay as on 1-1-2006 was 8500 in the scale of 6500-10500 and new pay was fixed as 20010.

On 1st July 2006, the increment was calculated at 3% i.e., 600.30.

However it was rounded off to Rs.600 only, and my pay as on 1-7-2006 was fixed as 16410 + 4200 GP.

As per the pay calculator in Gconnect, it shows my basic as on 1-7-2006 should be 16420 + 4200 GP. (Rs 10 more).

Kindly let me know the exact method of calculating/rounding off the reminder
30 paise, as our Accounts department says that the term 'rounding off to the
NEXT multiple of 10' will be applicable only if the reminder is more than 50 paise.

Some body kindly help me. (We have 5 more staff facing the same problem in
our office).

with regards SVK

Thanks pummy:) Is the GCONNECT calculator wrong?

your account people are not right. next higher ten rupee will come even if amount is Rs.0.01 only. The funda of more than 50 paisa is not applicable here. It was at the time when amount was rounded off to NEAREST one rupee. Here amount is to rounded off to next multiple of 10.

As per Notification, even when it is more by Re.0.01 rounding off is to be done to next ten. i.e. 20.01 will be rounded off to 30 and NOT 20. GCONNECTOR IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! If mistake is done be accounts people they will correct it and give arrears/fix the pay by a simple Office Order.

All the opinions contrary to the above is the result of half knowledge only.
