Can a person having less than 20 years of service at the age of 50 take VRS ?
Shall he be eligible per pension ?

Yes, She/He is eligible to get pension and other retirement benefits as he has completed 20 years of service. It is a good idea to take VRS after 20 years of service before taking up the next service.

The retirement under FR 56K on completion of 50 years of age does not strictly fall under the category of VRS. It is a reciprocal right available to a government employee to opt for retirement as against the right available to government to retire it's employee as a process of "cutting dead wood" under FR 56J. This retirement is not based on QS and purely after attaining the specified age. Therefore those who retire under this provisions are eligible for pension as in other cases i.e full pension, provided they have completed 10 years QS.
