And it must be remembered that as per the rules, the employee is supposed to reside within 8 KM radius from the office in which working.

Dear Friend,

I wonder if there is any such rule requiring the employees to reside within a radius of 8 kms for being eligible to draw HRA. I have witnessed people attending office at New Delhi from places/residences as far as Meerut, Panipat, Gaziabad, Faridabad, Gurgaon, etc., and claiming HRA at Delhi rates. Government officially grants special casual leave to these employees/residents of other states during the days of election in their respective states knowing fully well that they normally reside away from Delhi.
